1. Cable Beach

Cable Beach regularly ranks as one of the top beaches in Australia, and rightly so, it's got it all. Crystal clear water, incredible sunsets, beach chairs and umbrellas, fabulous grassed area for the evening picnic, 4WD tailgating, sunset camel rides, bars, restaurants, cafes, and perfect for that early morning walk on the beach. If you have never viewed an ocean sunset, Cable Beach is the place to be!

2. Town Beach Cafe

Town Beach is the place to come for breakfast in Broome - give the eggs florentine a try. Best viewed at high tide, your backdrop will be this beautiful turquoise coloured water. There's a playground for the kids, and at low tide you can walk out on the squelchy mud flats to the wreckage of the World War II flying boats, sunk during the bombing by the Japanese.

3. Staircase to the Moon

Witness the natural phenomenon known as Staircase to the Moon, caused by the rising of the full moon reflecting off the exposed mudflats. If you're in town head back down to Town Beach to watch this spectacle as the moons shine upon the mudflats looks like stairs leading up to it.

4. Sunset at Gantheaume

Point Gantheaume Point is a red rock cliff face overlooking a white sandy beach at the southern end of Cable Beach, and is spectacular at sunset. It's a short drive down an unsealed road, and there’s also a track which leads to a cast of dinosaur footprints at the bottom of the cliff, but you have to go at low tide.

5. Matso’s Brewery

Matso’s has some of the best micro-brewed beer in Australia. There's mango beer, ginger beer, chilli beer and my favourite, Pearler's Pale Ale. As for cider, both the mango and ginger cider are good too! Grab a seat in the lovely beer garden, it’s a great spot for lunch or dinner!

6. Mangrove Hotel

You can't beat the lunchtime views from the beer garden of the Mangrove Hotel - deep red earth, the dark green of the mangroves, the sparkling turquoise water of Roebuck Bay. It’s just beautiful. On the menu a must is the venison chorizo, slow cooked cherry tomato and goats cheese pizza. And the popcorn chicken is another locals pick.

7. Cygnet Bay Pearls

Broome has a rich pearling history, and Cygnet Bay Pearl Farms is the oldest working pearl farm in the region at Cape Leveque, a two hour drive from Broome. But you can visit their showroom in Chinatown and at 11am on weekdays a free pearl harvesting demonstration is done.

8. Sun Pictures

Sun Pictures is the world’s oldest operating open-air picture gardens. Don’t expect anything glam here, you’re sitting on deck chairs in the tropical garden gazing up at the big screen - totally Broome style - just try not to let the stars distract you! The cinemas show two movies every evening and is a must do activity in Broome.

9. The Good Cartel

Tucked away in a backstreet next door to the indoor cinemas, the Good Cartel is the place to go for coffee. A funky, eclectic cafe, you sit outside on milk crates with striped and colourful cushions chucked on them and small tables. The coffee is good and they have drive-through as well. Every Sunday they have live acoustic music only enhancing the chill factor.
