1. The Cape Byron Lighthouse Walk

This is definitely number one on the list of things to do in Byron Bay. The coastal walk from Main Beach up to the Cape Byron Lighthouse is one of the best short walks in NSW, if not Australia. Start at Main Beach and enjoy stunning coastal views as you take in The Pass and Wategos Beach (two famous surfing beaches before reaching the most easterly point on the Australian mainland. Keep an eye out for dolphins, stingrays, and in season migrating whales (July-September). Your reward at the top is stunning views back over Byron Bay and an ice-cream, or coffee and cake, from the Lighthouse Cafe (bring cash, no eftpos). On the way back down take the route via Tallows Beach and the National park.

2. Learn to Surf

You probably can’t get any more Australian than learning to surf at Byron Bay, maybe Bondi would come close. Byron’s famous beaches such as Main Beach, Clarkes, The Pass and Wategos all have beautiful, clean surf breaks which are perfect for learning, especially for your kids to build up their experience and confidence. 3. Byron Bluesfest

Got music running through your veins? The Byron Bay Bluesfest is the premier blues & roots festival in Australia showcasing music from around the world and every Easter over five days entertains thousands on a 120 hectare tea farm just outside of beautiful Byron Bay. With up to seven stages to choose from, it remains one of Australia’s most acclaimed festivals and prides itself on being an all ages family event. Bluesfest has presented the biggest names in music such as John Legend, BB King, James Brown, Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, Xavier Rudd, Joss Stone, and John Meyer. 4. Dive or snorkel at Julian Rocks

A five minute boat ride from Byron Bay brings you to one of the premier diving locations in Australia, Julian Rocks Marine Reserve. It’s also one of the few snorkel sites where you can swim with tropical species found on the Great Barrier Reef and home to three different species of sea turtle. The Byron Bay Dive Centre caters for all levels of diving and snorkelling experience.

5. Enrich Your Spirit at Crystal Castle

Nestled in Byron’s beautiful Mullumbimby hinterland, the Crystal Castle is a unique place to enrich your spirit and discover the magic that lies within yourself and the natural world. Huge boulders of pink crystal line the paths and form circular designs randomly placed through the gardens, whilst inscriptions from great teachers can also be found on crystals. The Buddha trail is the perfect place to walk off lunch from the onsite cafe as you wander through bamboo forests and spectacular gardens filled with mystic statues. Crystal Castle is a place of quiet reflection and meditative renewal, and a calming way to spend a few hours.
