New South Wales offers some of the best fishing areas in Australia. The Port Stephens region features a large, well-stocked harbour. Towns such as Nelson Bay, Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest make great bases for a fishing holiday and are easily accessible from Sydney.

Further north, the twin towns of Forster and Tuncurry are known for their excellent lake, beach and river fishing spots. Wallis Lake is a large estuary system offering tranquil locations, while nearby Smiths and Myall Lakes are also favourites of anglers.

Ballina, located in the Northern Rivers region, is a fishing hotspot. The Richmond River estuary is an angler's paradise, while the town's beaches are known for their productive fishing holes.

Victoria's most beloved fishing destinations include towns in the south west of the state such as Portland and Port Fairy. Port Phillip Bay and Western Port also offer lengthy shorelines with a great many piers, wharves and beaches for shore based fishing.

Goolwa in South Australia is where the Murray River meets the ocean, with the surrounding estuary areas home to a number of fishing areas. The Fleurieu Peninsula and Kangaroo Island are also popular fishing holiday destinations.

Western Australia's rugged southern coastline encompasses towns such as Esperance, Albany and Margaret River which are surrounded by vast stretches of pristine coastline and beachfront national parks. Beach fishing in the area is regarded as some of the best in Australia.

Northern Australia attracts anglers from all over the world who hope to snare the mighty barramundi. Broome and Darwin are the largest population centres in the area and make a terrific base for a wild and unforgettable fishing holiday.
