Phillip Island is known as the home of motor racing in Victoria. The Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit was originally constructed in 1928 and continues to host important international race meetings. The most famous is the Australian MotoGP, a major motor cycle race held every October. Other events at the Phillip Island track include the Superbike World Championship, V8 Supercars and Superkart races. The circuit also houses a go kart track which is open to the public as well as the chance to speed around the track in a HSV Hot Lap.

Besides the race track, Phillip Island also offers beautiful beaches ranging from the calm bays fronting Western Port to the wild surf beaches of the south. The charming townships of the island feature beautiful heritage and warm hospitality. The Penguin Parade, the daily returning of the island's fairy penguin population to the beach at Summerlands, also remains an enduring Phillip Island attraction.

Phillip Island bustles with visitors during race times, so booking holiday accommodation early is essential to avoid disappointment. Cowes is the largest town on the island and offers a great selection of holiday homes and apartments. Nearby Ventnor and Silverleaves also offer fantastic locations beside Western Port. Holiday accommodation in Smiths Beach, Sunderland Bay and Surf Beach is right next door to the race track, while Rhyll, Newhaven and Cape Woolamai also make popular bases.

Phillip Island is accessible from Melbourne via the Princes Freeway and Bass Highway. Daily coach services connect Cowes with Melbourne. Melbourne's Tullamarine Airport is the major gateway to the region and is serviced by domestic and international flights.

Phillip Island Go Karts and HSV Hot Laps

A trip to the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit is not all about watching others have all the fun. For the true adrenalin-pumping experience, visitors can try the Phillip Island Go Kart track. A replica of the Grand Prix Circuit, the track features the same amazing features of the real track and is perfect for wannabe race car drivers. Another breathtaking experience is HSV Hot Laps, which are escorted tours of the race track with your very own race car driver and done, of course, at top speed.
