The 2017-18 Sydney International Art Series will showcase two inspired exhibitions:

  1. Pipilotti Rist: Sip my Ocean – Be immersed in light, video and sound as you explore installations and artworks, both expansive and intimate at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia
  2. Rembrandt and the Dutch golden age: masterpieces from the Rijksmuseum -  See outstanding works of art by the greatest Dutch painters of the 17th Century at the Art Gallery of NSW

Mammoths - Giant of the Ice Age

18 November 2017 till 13 May 2018

For millions of years, mammoths roamed the Earth. Mammoths – Giants of the Ice Age transports visitors to a world dominated by these colossal creatures, that weighed up to eight tons and bore tusks up to five metres long.

For the first time in Australia, journey into the Ice Age to discover fossils, life-size replicas and the world’s only real preserved baby mammoth, Lyuba. Investigate current theories about their DNA and extinction and unravel the biological and paleontological mysteries of these awe-inspiring land mammals.

20 January till 25 February 2018

Surfest Newcastle Australia 2018 is Australia's biggest festival of surfing and provides a wide array of action in and out of the water for locals and visitors.

The 33rd year of the festival sees 11 different surfing events with more than 800 competitors launching in the Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Port Stephens local government areas.

Action gets underway with the Lake Macquarie Festival of Surfing on January 20. The main surfing events - the Burton Automotive Pro and the Grandstand Physio Women's Pro - are World Surf League endorsed events set down for Merewether beach from 19-25 February. 

Action out of the water includes markets and entertainment at Merewether on February 24-25 as well as meet-and-greet the surfer sessions from groms young and old.

HSBC Sydney 7s

26-28 January 2018

The HSBC Sydney 7s are back and bigger than ever before! On 26 – 28 January 2018, Sydney will play host for the Australian leg of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series over three days of fast paced rugby, serious fun and party action!

Wigan Warriors NSW Tour 2018

10 & 17 February 2018

Wigan Warriors and Hull FC will play the first ever Super League game for premiership points outside of Europe in Wollongong, at WIN Stadium on Saturday, 10 February 2018.

This match will be followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, 17 February 2018 at ANZ Stadium: Wigan Warriors v South Sydney Rabbitohs and Hull FC v St George Illawarra Dragons.

Australian Bowl Riding Championships

24 - 25 February 2018

The Australian Bowl-Riding Championship (ABC) celebrates its seventh consecutive year in 2018. The 2-day event is known as the first true Nationals skateboard competition and has evolved into one of the Southern Hemisphere’s most exciting bowl-skateboarding annual events. ABC is an all-inclusive open event that welcomes skateboarders from every skill level and age to sign up and compete for huge cash and prizes.
