1. Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory

The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory is located at Bullocky Point and is open seven days a week. It's the leading cultural and artistic organisation in the Top End, featuring a mix of permanent displays and travelling exhibitions from around the country. The museum cares for more than 1.2 million natural history specimens and a staggering number of art and cultural items.

2. The George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens

Escape the city and explore the George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens, which are just a 30-45 minute walk away from Darwin central. It's one of the world's only botanic gardens to have estuarine and marine plants occurring naturally on its grounds, and has been thriving for 120 years.

3. Territory Wildlife Park

See wildlife in its natural habitat at Territory Wildlife Park. Walk through the park's treetop aviaries and roam around a natural lagoon as you get up close and personal with animals. The park has an onsite walk-through aquarium and its own saltwater crocodile.

4. Mindil Beach Sunset Market

Head to Mindil Beach on Thursday and Sunday evenings to see the sun set over the Arafura Sea. The Mindil Beach Sunset Market is a favourite of locals and visitors alike, and features Thai, Sri Lankan, Malaysian, Chinese, Indian, Greek, Brazilian and Portuguese food, just to name a few. You can also pick up souvenir such as handmade jewellery and creative art here.

5. Crocosaurus Cove

Adventure awaits you at Crocosaurus Cove, which is located in the heart of Darwin. Here you can see saltwater crocodiles in the flesh and explore the world's largest display of Australian reptiles. There's even a 'Swim with the Crocs' experience for those who want a real adrenalin rush.

6. Darwin Waterfront

Darwin's waterfront has been revamped and is now a hub of fine dining, excellent shopping and lush parklands. Head here with your togs for a swim in the lagoon before enjoying an al fresco meal of freshly caught seafood at one of the waterfront's many restaurants.

7. Darwin Military Museum

Discover the city's fascinating military history at Darwin Military Museum, located at the original command post that controlled 9.2-inch gun emplacements that were built to defend the harbour and city. Learn the stories of WWII and the role Darwin had to play.

8. Leanyer Recreation Park

Take the kids to Leanyer Recreation Park for a day of fun in the sun. Families can enjoy the variety of facilities available, including the pool and wet play area, three huge water slides and grassy area complete with barbeques. There's also a skate park and basketball court for everyone to use.

9. Aquascene

Darwin's Doctors Gully is home to Aquascene, which sees hundreds of local wild fish swim up to the shore and nibble on fresh bread hand-fed to them by visitors. Aquascene attracts more than 70,000 visitors each year.

10. Australian Aviation Heritage Centre

Explore the Australian Aviation Heritage Centre, which is regarded as one of Australia's major aviation museums. Be sure to check out the B-52 bomber on permanent loan from the US Air Force - it's only the second on public display anywhere in the world outside USA.
