1. Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

Snuggle up to cuddly koalas at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, which is the world's finest and largest koala sanctuaries. It boasts more than 130 koalas, so there are plenty of opportunities for you to get up close and personal with one of Australia's most beloved national icons. You can also hand feed kangaroos while you're there, and meet a friendly platypus. There are regular animal talks and experiences every day, including a bird of prey free flight show, Tasmanian devil feed and keeper presentation and sheep dog and sheep shearing show.

2. Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mount Coot-tha

Enjoy a slice a nature when you head to Toowong's Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mount Coot-tha, which are regarded as the best subtropical botanic gardens in the state. They're free to the public and are open every day of the year, with themed sections including an arid zone with a cactus garden, a scented garden, bamboo grove and the serene and tranquil Japanese gardens. You'll also find the largest collection of Australian native rainforest trees to be found anywhere in the world.

3. Queensland Art Gallery

Get cultured at the Queensland Art Gallery, a visual arts institution that offers both Australian and international exhibitions showcasing work across a wide range of eras. Take a free guided tour around the gallery with a Volunteer Guide, or explore the more than 16,000 Australian and international paintings, multimedia installations, sculptures and more at your leisure.

4. Wheel of Brisbane

Experience views across the Brisbane River aboard the Wheel of Brisbane, which boasts 360 degree panoramic views across the city from its location in The Parklands, Southbank. Soar 60 metres above ground in an air-conditioned, fully enclosed capsule and see the city's sights from a whole new angle. A VIP experience can add an extra touch of glamour to your trip up the Wheel, giving you an extended ride duration and luxurious seats, tinted windows and personally selected music.

5. The Gabba

The Gabba is one of the most beloved cricket grounds in Australia, hosting local and international matches each year. Take a guided tour with a volunteer who conducts such experiences on a weekly basis, ensuring you'll get a knowledgeable guide as you take in one of Australia's greatest grounds. The 42,000 seat ground has plenty of history to soak up, and if you're in the city at the right time you may be able to catch a live match or two.

6. Story Bridge

Climb Brisbane's iconic Story Bridge for a thrilling day high in the sky. The walk presents you with spectacular views of Moreton Bay in the east and Scenic Rim in the west, with a vantage point of 80 metres above sea level. The pace is relaxed on the 2.5 hour walk, with starts with a fascinating information session on the history of the bridge. For an added adrenalin rush, finish the adventure with a huge 30 metre abseil down the pier, giving you the chance to scale the bridge and test your nerves!

7. Riverlife Adventure Centre

Find your next challenge at Riverlife Adventure Centre, which offers a plethora of adventure activities including standup paddle boarding, cycling, rollerblading, rock climbing, scooter rides, abseiling, kayaking, Segway tours and kickbikes. There are also special experience packages you can select to make the adventure that much more special. Try the 'paddle and dine' option, where you kayak down the river past Brisbane's nightlife to a mouth-watering meal. The night even is lit up thanks to your illuminated kayak.

8. XXXX

Indulge your love of beer with a tour of the XXXX brewery and alehouse. Here you'll learn how the iconic Aussie brew got its name, have the chance to sample it straight from the brewery and discover how the liquid delight is made. With a 135-year history, there's plenty to discover on the 90 minute tour, and it's even family-friendly. Just book in advance to avoid disappointment on the day.

9. The Workshops Rail Museum

Take the kids to the Workshops Rail Museum, which is the oldest still-operating workshop in Australia. The cultural and heritage experience boasts interactive exhibits and multimedia experiences, plus plenty of industrial machinery and steam locomotives to enthrall audiences. There's more than 140 years of history to uncover here, with 15 exhibits and Australia's oldest working steam locomotive.

10. Southbank

Relax amongst Southbank's 17 hectares of parklands and take in the river views that accompany them. This area boasts exquisite eateries, public art and plenty of cultural attractions. Get educated at Queensland Maritime Museum, take in a show at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre and enjoy the free wi-fi that is offered throughout the parklands.
