1. Adelaide Botanic Gardens

The Adelaide Botanic Gardens present a little slice of paradise in the heart of the city. The well-maintained gardens include ancient trees such as the Wollemi Pine, which has been around since the dinosaur age, and the Amazonica waterlily, which only comes into bloom during the evening. You can also discover historic buildings including glasshouses and learn more about the plants located around the grounds.

2. Adelaide Zoo

Meet lions, tortoises, giant pandas and even a two-toeds sloth at Adelaide Zoo, which is just next door to the gardens. Embark on an animal encounter or meet the keepers of these gorgeous creatures. You'll find more than 2,500 animals spread across the more than 8 hectares of pristine land here.

3. Art Gallery of South Australia

The Art Gallery of South Australia is located in North Terrace and features an array of exhibitions and collections. It was founded in 1881 and features 38,000 works of art, all located in a stunning building. General admission is free and there's plenty to see, including Australian, European, North American and Asian works.

4. Adelaide Central Market

The largest undercover fresh produce market in the southern hemisphere, Adelaide Central Market is always buzzing. Some of the produce on offer includes gourmet cheeses, bakery products and local olives. Market tours are the perfect way to delve more into the history and excitement of the market. Tuesday - Saturday. 

5. Haighs Chocolate Visitor Centre

Australia’s oldest chocolate manufacturer grew from humble beginnings in Adelaide to stores now found across Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne. See the heart of Haigh’s at their Visitor Centre and factory just five minutes south of the city. Tours are available of the factory and a sample may even be offered at the end! Tours three times a day, Monday - Friday. 

6. Penfolds Magill Estate

Explore the beautifully restored winery of Penfolds Magill Estate, home to Penfolds Grange and only 15 minutes east of the city. Open seven days a week, 10am-5pm. 

7. The Beaches

If it is beach weather, head to one of Adelaide's sunniest spots for a dip in the surf. Don't miss Glenelg, which is just a short drive from the city centre, or head to Brighton Beach for a community with an art deco feel - and of course, stunning sand and water.

8. Cleland Conservation Park

Stretch your legs at Cleland Conservation Park, which is home to Cleland Wildlife Park, Mt Lofty Summit and the Waterfall Gully - all not far from Adelaide itself. There are plenty of walking trails to enjoy through the park, and shared use trails that allow cyclists to enjoy the beautiful scenery.

9. The Bradman Collection

The Bradman Collection is a world class exhibition dedicated to an Australian legend and international hero who made Adelaide his home. Watch footage of Bradman in the theatrette, test your own skills with the interactive museum, and browse through personal items including cricket bats, balls, trophies, items of clothing and more. The collection is open 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday (except Public Holidays), and is free for the public to view.

10. Adelaide Oval

Even if there's not a match on, Adelaide Oval is still well worth a visit. It has hosted cricket and football games since colonial times, so if you time your visit well you may get to enjoy some AFL or live international cricket.
