Wine Tour

With the Barossa and Clare Valley on its doorstep, Adelaide is a city that refuses to let visitors mope when the weather is poor. Leave the city limits and within 20 minutes you’ll be driving amongst vineyards and cellar doors, where the hospitality is warm, the furnishings dry, and the winemakers have plenty to whet your whistle. Enjoy a self-drive winery tour, stopping at your leisure to sample some of the regions’ best drops and graze from the local produce, cafes and restaurants, or join an organised tour and forget about being the designated driver.

Adelaide Central Market

Follow your nose and let your taste buds do the exploring at the historic Adelaide Central Market. The market is the largest undercover market in the Southern Hemisphere and features more than 80 traders under one roof. Be swept up in the lively atmosphere as you wander between stalls laden with fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, seafood, cheeses, smallgoods, baked treats and ethnic delicacies. Stock up on produce for a picnic when the weather breaks, or dine at one of the cafes and eateries.

Carrick Hill

Get a taste of the high life as a 20th-century aristocrat at the lavish Carrick Hill estate, set on a hillside overlooking the city. The 1930s mansion was the home of wealthy power-couple Sir Edward and Lady Ursula Hayward, who filled the house with a wealth of paintings, sculptures, antiques and drawings, which remain today. Home to internationally significant art collections, and nestled within 40 hectares of manicured gardens and bushland, Carrick Hill is one of the few period homes in Australia that remains intact with its original contents virtually untouched.
