BirdLife Discovery Centre

BirdLife Discovery Centre is located within Sydney Olympic Park's Newington Armory and is free for all ages to visit. Here you can learn all about the many birds you can find around Australia, including those migrating animals that only visit the country during certain seasons. Keep your eyes peeled for the live EagleCam, which follows resident white-bellied sea eagles though tree-mounted cameras.

Royal Botanic Gardens

The Royal Botanic Gardens are a must-visit regardless of your budget. This is a 30 hectare sanctuary located in the heart of Sydney, overlooking the Sydney Harbour to present some spectacular views. It is the oldest scientific institution in Australia, established in 1816, and contains some of the nation's most outstanding plants. Spend an afternoon in the romantic rose garden or learn more about begonias in the Begonia Garden. Treat your senses in the Herb Garden or take a rainforest walk to discover more about the Australian plants that sustain the environment. Make sure you check out the Cadi Jam Ora: First Encounters Garden Display, which is a four-bed exhibit developed to explore the encounters between Europeans and Indigenous Australians.

Art Gallery of New South Wales

The Art Gallery of NSW was established in 1871 and these days presents international and Australian art to the masses. Admission to the gallery is free, meaning you can explore the permanent galleries and many events and exhibitions without paying a cent.

The beautiful building is filled with modern and contemporary works and overlooks the harbour, giving you beautiful views while you take in the art. See colonial and 19th-century Australian works alongside European masters, with Asian, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art also on display. There are also more than 30 temporary exhibitions on display each year.

Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk

Make the most of the breathtaking views over the ocean along the Bondi to Coogee walk, which takes in bays, rocks pools, inlets and cliffs along its 6‚Äč-kilometre route. Stop in for a coffee or cool drink at a cafe in Coogee or Bronte before getting back to the walk.

It all begins at Bondi Icebergs above the Bondi Baths. Walk along the path from there or climb the steps to Marks Park to take in views and Aboriginal rock carvings. Pass by Mackenzie's Point Beach on your way to Tamarama before heading to Bronte Beach, where you can climb up to the boardwalk for even more stunning views of the surrounding area. Continue on to Clovelly, which is perfect for photo opportunities, before finding yourself at Coogee Beach.
